My sister in law lives with us and uses our things. This is how she leaves my peloton after use even after I’ve mentioned it a few times
Am I wrong for being pissed ?? she’s not a child she’s in her 30’s and conversations go in one ear and out the other.
5.6k
u/PadawanJoone 9d ago
Oh hell no. Those things are not cheap! At this point I would pull her by the peloton, hand her a rag and spray, and make her wipe it down then and there. She'll be mad you are treating her like a child but she obviously isn't adult.enough to behave like one.

u/esituism 9d ago
So FYI for you and the guy above you, generally as you get more fit you actually sweat more because your body is more efficient at exhausting heat because you're in shape.
Sorry dudes.
220
u/brozo_da_Klown 9d ago
Yeah to add to this. It is a good thing, from my time in the army us "super sweaty boys" never went down as heat casualties while dudes who sweat less definitely would. Your body is a machine and sweat is good.
148
u/IchiSanSanNana 9d ago
Huh, that’s kinda reassuring. I have always been overly conscious of my sweating but when you phrase it like that it seems like a super power.
118
u/KickBallFever 9d ago
My friend has hyperhydrosis but only in her hands. In the winter her hands get steamy and it totally looks like a super power.
73
u/fake_geek_gurl 9d ago
I sweat a ton from my hands and it's a curse in warmer months because my work gloves become human juice boxes.
7
u/bitchigottadesktop 9d ago
It literally is look up what can sweat and what can't its a pretty great evolutionary tactic!
58
u/KickBallFever 9d ago
When I was in basic there was a guy who got kicked out because he was born without the ability to sweat. I don’t know how he thought no one would figure that out. He couldn’t even keep his whole uniform on once Spring started to get warm. He was allowed to just wear his T-shirt while they processed him out.

Peloton bikes are not normal exercise bikes. They have a big computer screen integrated into the front. You take live classes with instructors and compete against others when biking. The PIN on the bike would be similar to the PIN on your phone. A Lock Screen.

I don’t believe there’s any way to get the pedals to physically lock and stop moving. OPs sister would still be able to use the bike without signing in, just without the features of the bike (live classes etc)

u/justinjonesphd 9d ago

If it's your primary residence you can evict a tenant with 30 Days notice. This is in CA which has some of the strictest tenant protections.
→ More replies118
u/HamburgerEarmuff 9d ago
It's not that clear-cut, even in California.
That mainly applies to a single-lodger. And even then, if they refuse to move out, you'll most likely have to file an unlawful detainer lawsuit, win the lawsuit, and then get a court order for them to leave. And then you'll need the Sherriff to enforce the order if they don't leave on their own.
If you don't do all of those things, you can be sued or (or in egregious cases, even prosecuted for) illegal eviction.
→ More replies47
u/goodboyinc 9d ago
I came here to mention this. Plus, they can file for 30 day extensions from the court. Had an ex that I had to get a restraining order on to kick her out. Particularly because courts were delayed due to COVID. Cops basically told me to expect about 6 months (of freeloading rent) before I would be finished with the courts and have a legal basis to remove her from the property. So, I dug up old texts and got a restraining order with a move out order. (She had at one point pointed a gun at me out of anger.) Boomshakalaka. 👋🏽
Also, my boy is executive VP of a pretty large real estate development firm. He regularly pays homeless squatters $10k to gtfo properties, otherwise the timeline being backed up would cost far far more due to contractual obligations to pay workers/contractors, have to pay for construction parts to be stored off-site, etc. Basically a whole lotta shit.
Bottom line, it’s really really hard to kick people out of your property—at least, in a legal manner.

Do pelatons not have a safety key or something on it you can just take out so it won't work? Usually like a safety feature or something to keep kids from getting hurt on it. You should watch! It's one of those rare shows that actually gets better over time. They've been on since 2005, and some of their greatest episodes ever are from more recent seasons.
But, I highly recommend starting from the beginning and watching all the way through. Most episodes are pretty self-contained, but there is some important continuity (specifically character arc-wise) that you'll only get by watching it all in order.

Yep. If it’s going in one ear and out the other, it’s because she expects no consequences. Because there have been no consequences.
Living with you is conditional on her being respectful of your space and property. Straight up tell her if she can’t listen to what she is told, don’t use your shit. And if she does it anyway, she can just get the hell out.
And follow through.
All you’re doing by allowing this to carry on is enabling a 30 year old to never grow up or move out. She’s not a child, she’s an adult roommate. And she’s not holding up her end.

That's not being a dick. You are justified in taking a firm stance, so I would argue it's not the same. Sure, it might sound and feel the same, especially for the immature person being told off, but it's not the same.

Ugh. My peloton looks like this when I’m done. I sweat a ton. I always, always wipe it down.
127
u/Agile_Pudding_ 9d ago
Right, you wipe it down because you’re a reasonable human who has, at some point in their life, exercised in a shared space or with your own equipment that you cared about.
You wipe down exercise equipment after use because nobody wants to use a bike, bench, or anything else that is covered in someone else’s sweat. In the case where you own your own peloton and are the only person to use it, it’s still a good idea to wipe it down for cleanliness and longevity of the bike, but certainly if you’re using someone else’s bike, leaving it like this is just absurd.

u/thedudefromsweden 9d ago
Just curious. I've never heard of peloton before and had to Google it. So it's an exercise bike? Why do you call it peloton instead of just exercise bike, is it significantly different from other exercise bikes?
Edit: from Wikipedia:
Peloton's main products are Internet-connected stationary bicycles and treadmills that enable monthly subscribers to remotely participate in classes via streaming media.
So I guess that makes them pretty different.
→ More replies13
u/boobymoon 9d ago
Yes! It’s the whole exercise network as a whole that I think people are attracted to. Plus, during the pandemic lockdown, it became a really popular product to help stay fit and stay connected with friends/colleagues/workout buddies. I also think people are more inclined to “get their money’s worth out of it” since it is so pricey, so they were around and relevant long enough for Peloton to evolve and offer more services.
I should clarify though that I do not own a Peloton myself.

Like I see other comments "hide the pedals" sounds petty and pointless if I want to exercise in my house I don't need the effort of finding and putting the equipment together to impede that, it puts another hindrance on the motivation to be healthy and care for myself. Act like a kid be treated like a kid. I ask once tell once third time your out of my house.

I have a feeling this isn’t the only belonging of yours she uses and then doesn’t put back the way she found it…it’s time for her to go since she can’t act like an adult.

Honestly I’ve stationary biked average 12.5 miles every couple days and I don’t sweat near as much as that. It’s pretty gross and I’d tell your wife/husband/other to have a word with her or move it into your personal bedroom for a couple weeks and when she gets angry that you’ve taken it away you tell her tough titties and if she wants it back she needs to clean it after use. Act like a child get treated like a child.

The amount of sweat isn’t the issue at all. It’s the lack of wiping it down.

Some people are really sweaty, and they should be aware that they are and act accordingly!
