As much I hate to ruin all the fun…it’s a rainbow grasshopper (Dactylotum bicolor), also known as a painted grasshopper, or the barber pole grasshopper. They exhibit aposematism (warning coloration) indicating to potential predators that they are toxic.

Why would you be ruining the fun by explaining which grasshopper this is? Thanks for the info! "barber pole grasshopper"... 😄😄😄

Because everyone was joking about the Broncos and here I come with the learning…ruining all the fun

u/KeybladeMasterAqua Aug 13 '22

Now I’m imagining a grasshopper giving haircuts. That’s even better!

13

u/Dijaiku Aug 13 '22

Indeed they are toxic, they’re TidePod Grasshoppers

9

u/ThePracticalPenquin Aug 13 '22

Not ruin - this is the only reason I clicked in. Thanks!

2

u/_NamasteMF_ Aug 13 '22

All I know, is no rainbow grasshopper is going to be allowed to groom children here in Florida, even if it claims to be a barber!

u/Ganjanonamous Aug 13 '22

Is this one toxic? Cuz I ben suplimentin my meets wif hoppers since the Kennedys. Prolly scarfed one dees along the way.

1

u/Much_Connection_6712 Aug 13 '22

They are toxic but at most, should only make you sick. The eastern lubber (bright orange, yellow, and red ones) is also toxic to humans but likely to a greater degree. Again, can make you sick but not deadly.

That's the rare Denver Bronco Grasshopper. They only come out when there is a chance for us to win the super bowl

19

u/rainreset Aug 12 '22

Let’s hope so!!

6

u/JohnnyTroubador Aug 12 '22

1

u/miller94 Aug 13 '22

3

u/nmesunimportnt Aug 13 '22

Nah. Avalanche repeat is predicted. Sorry. Denver wants ALL the hardware.

Dutch grass hopper

16

u/RotoGnash Aug 12 '22

Grasshoppers come in TidePod flavor now?

5

u/Greensssss Aug 13 '22

Grasshoppers are pretty edible actually. There was a stand in a major city that was giving away free ice cream, I was like great free ice cream. Theres a catch. It had bug parts. Each ice cream flavor had a particular bug in them thay is edible, some butterfly, grasshoppers, and crickets. I chose the chocolate and it had the grasshopper parts. It wasnt bad, very crunchy.

u/bk15dcx Aug 13 '22

Nova did a full episode on insect diets. It will be a necessity in the future. Current population growth and food production is unsustainable without adding insects to the menu

2

u/Heterophylla Aug 13 '22

I ate a bag of fried hoppers once . Tasted kind of like salty dirt and grass . Not a fan .

10

u/Ok_Morning3588 Aug 13 '22

Clearly a Broncos fan.

9

u/Cur-De-Carmine Aug 13 '22

0

Well, the Broncos certainly get more love than the Bears........... But I'm here to say it was clearly rooting for the Illini :-P
