Why though? There's a display right where you scan your pass and a display IN YOUR HAND!

44

u/Ma1eficent Jul 01 '22

So that people get used to being individually tracked by surveillance systems, but sold as a convenience.

10

u/gnudarve Jul 01 '22

This guy gets it.

u/solidcordon Jul 01 '22

You are the center of the technouniverse. All things revolve around and are provided for you.

Are you satisfied with your long distance provider? Would you like to purchase a pillow? Have you considered voting against your own best interests based on these personalised lies we've concocted?

This isn't the final form / limit of the technology - the point is to gain public interest and to get the public used to it. I imagine that at a certain point people won't even have to take their devices out of their pockets at all, which would be a huge convenience for many.

-4

u/Careful-Combination7 Jul 01 '22

It doesn't have the most up to date flight information

3

u/gullman Jul 01 '22

Why wouldn't it. Surely both are pulling the same data.

2

u/Careful-Combination7 Jul 01 '22

I didn't think of that.

1

u/therealsix Jul 01 '22

Their app gives updates, notifies delays, gate changes, tells you when your luggage was boarded, etc.

-5

u/Careful-Combination7 Jul 01 '22

Does it tho? Every time I've used it it is all blanks

1

u/therealsix Jul 01 '22

It does for me. I'm in Atlanta so I fly Delta nearly every time, their app is great, haven't had an issue with it at all.

1

u/Holiday_Newspaper_29 Jul 02 '22 edited Jul 02 '22

That's what I thought too and, what is the point of making life even more stressful by reminding yourself that every business and agency knows everything about you - there is no privacy!

32

u/therealsix Jul 01 '22

So if someone is standing behind you, or directly next to you, they can see it, it's essentially just a linticular. If they're maybe 3-4+ feet away then they can't.

Company is named "Misapplied Sciences" that came up with this, which is kind of appropriate seeing that this would be something most people wouldn't use. Better information is in this article.

Gif of how it looks from other angles.

And the guy scanned the code from the app on your phone, just use the app you already have for that info.

6

u/el_LOU Jul 01 '22

So if someone is standing behind you, or directly next to you, they can see it

Right.. Instead of the scan just putting the information on the $1000 machine in the palm of your hand it puts it up in a huge display in public for anyone standing next to you to see.

5

u/Chris-1235 Jul 01 '22

Thereby giving your name to them too. It takes a special kind of stupid to come up with this shit.

Downside: Ads targeted based on your face are coming soon.

6

u/mbxz7LWB Jul 01 '22

So if I see ads for beauty cream, it'll be official that I'm ugly.

-sobs silently in the corner

2

u/7eggert Jul 01 '22

Also you'll discover that hooverboards don't work on water.

1

u/JockBbcBoy Jul 01 '22

Cubs won the World Series though.

3

u/snarkicon Jul 01 '22

You still need your boarding to get in the plane, lol.

Besides, every airline has an app. I haven’t printed a boarding pass in years

2

u/ImperialHedonism Jul 01 '22

Covid swab tests kinda ground that to a halt for a few years but now mobile passes are back in full swing.

1

u/JockBbcBoy Jul 01 '22

Good point. I rarely travel by plane because I am terrified of falling from great heights. Going into the air causes me to have a severe panic attack and hyperventilate.

10

u/jarbar82 Jul 01 '22

The sky's not the limit, the ground is.

2

u/TheCrystalFawn91 Jul 01 '22

If it means anything, my dad is a pilot and is also terrified of hights. I'm also afraid of heights but I'm just fine in a plane. There's a different feeling being in something with wings rather than on the edge of a cliff or something.

2

u/JockBbcBoy Jul 01 '22

For me, there isn't a difference. You know those videos where someone is on the edge of a cliff or the side of a bridge and they pan to look down? I get vertigo just from watching those.

2

u/Independent_Lock6109 Jul 01 '22

Its not the fall, its the sudden stop.

12

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22 edited Jul 01 '22

How? (Please explain like I’m 5)

6

u/ThrowRA-tifu Jul 01 '22

I’m assuming it’s sort of like how privacy screens work, where based on where you’re standing you see different things (or in the case of a privacy screen, nothing at all).

The app tells you to move until you’re aligned to see your information. If anyone knows more details, it would be neat to see an explanation!

1

u/timmyboyoyo Jul 01 '22

Some one else saw their information

1

u/Aegir2122 Jul 01 '22

It's called a Lenticular Screen, you've probably seen something similar on a smaller scale with those little plastic toys that they used to call 'holographic'.

-20

u/Km2930 Jul 01 '22

Special magic glasses with unicorn power and rainbow fairy dust. Here, watch some Octonauts and STFU.

8

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

Bro chill i was just asking

3

u/Refun712 Jul 01 '22

Oh…they are explaining like you are 5

4

u/syzamix Jul 01 '22

Well, that's how dumb people who themselves don't know anything and don't have any intellectual curiosity talk.

Imagine if your kids want to learn about the works and your every response is "STFU watch some cartoons". That's how you get dumbass citizens.

Wouldn't be surprised that the person giving that terrible answer also was shut down by parents and as a result never actually learned anything.

2

u/Refun712 Jul 01 '22

Yup….I agree. Hopefully that person is 12 though and is just trying to be funny.

2

u/syzamix Jul 01 '22

Is that what your parents told you everytime you asked something? Is that why you are dumb as brick and don't really know anything?

It's ok. I'm sure there are jobs out there for your level as well...

0

u/Km2930 Jul 01 '22

Triggered!

2

u/Jemmerl Jul 01 '22

Spare this man, his joke went over too many heads!

8

u/paraddidler13 Jul 01 '22

Uhhhh… I want my privacy. Fuck this crap.

11

u/Andrewg1972 Jul 01 '22

You can run but you can’t hide. All part of the plan.

6

u/punjabface Jul 01 '22

This is terrifying

5

u/Synithium_ Jul 01 '22

I’m not digging that it’s essentially big board broadcasting my name and destination to everyone directly behind me.

0

u/somolov Jul 01 '22

Not how it works. Other people looking at the screen see their own information. It broadcasts different light at different angles and supports up to 100 people looking at one time.

2

u/CocaineIsNatural Jul 01 '22

It is angle based, so someone next to you wouldn't see it. But someone behind you would see it.

2

u/roguesimian Jul 01 '22

Minority Report is becoming a reality

2

u/Fabulous-Ad6844 Jul 01 '22

I don’t want it. It’s too creepy. Argh!!

1

u/pianobarbarian1 Jul 01 '22

1

u/short_fuzed_frenchie Jul 01 '22

1

u/midsizenun Jul 02 '22

“It sees where you’re standing it sees where you’re looking” interestingasfuck or disturbingasfuck?

1

u/My_Lucid_Dreams Jul 02 '22

Hello, Jordan. Closer to the kill zone please.

-1

u/atomicchuckle Jul 01 '22

I’d love to try it but that would require me visiting Detroit and why in gods name would anyone want to do that?

0

u/bitsystem Jul 01 '22

This is so fucked up

0

u/Ok-Mirror5380 Jul 01 '22

Thanks to AI eventually we'll all have our own propaganda machine guiding us on what to do & think. Yeah technology.

0

u/Radiant_Obligation_3 Jul 01 '22

Hard pass, that's actually scary
