please say this is real

u/GeneralZaroff1 Dec 19 '22

It is and I’m almost hoping that the crowd says yes because he’s doing a great job absolutely destroying the platform and losing people to bots.

297

u/revchewie Dec 19 '22

It’s up to over 14 million votes and the percentages are still the same.

215

u/guessesurjobforfood Dec 19 '22

I just voted and it's now 58% to 42% lol

23

u/RedTalyn Dec 19 '22

Proof of the bots on the site.

124

u/putfascists6ftunder Dec 19 '22

Ah yes, the "people voting later, must be cheating" crowd is arriving, go eat a crayon in the corner like the other kids instead of trying to annoy us all please

25

u/Okorela Dec 19 '22

Because Twitter polls definitely have the same level of security as elections.

67

u/Karnewarrior Dec 19 '22

It's not that, it's that his logic is so faulty scientists are watching it in preparation for the next super-quake.

18

u/cauchy37 Dec 19 '22

God damn, you chose violence today. Quite unique insult.

I’m almost hoping that the crowd says yes because he’s doing a great job absolutely destroying the platform

Don't you mean that you're almost hoping that the crowd says no so that Elon stays as the head of Twitter to destroy the platform?

63

u/Bertie637 Dec 19 '22

Honestly, as a non-twitter user I quite fancy him bringing down Twitter. Would do us all good to see a big social media firm die, remind us its possible as they dictate to governments etc.

17

u/Cwhale Dec 19 '22

The only problem with this is that once twitter dies, some other company is going to make a similar app and fill that void.

10

u/thehumangoomba Dec 19 '22

A marketplace is only as healthy as its use. If this is how social media continues to be, it will not be seen as a smart investment for actual businesspeople, just jokers like Sunk Mole.

10

u/Bertie637 Dec 19 '22

That's true, but it would generate headlines and be a shock to the industry. Remind them they are mortal pike anybody else.

Hell I'm fine with a replacement firm popping up, I don't like it but obviously a lot of people do so there is clearly a market for it

0

u/alone_sheep Dec 19 '22

I'm not. Anyone remember Vine? Now we have TikTok and it's a fucking Chinese engineered antisocial, ADHD, depression, and gender confusion generator for gen Z.

They already exist now.

0

u/CMD-ZZZ Dec 19 '22

Yeah, but he might bring down democracy too in the process

3

u/Bertie637 Dec 19 '22

Is that you Elon? 🤣 Twitter collapsing won't bring down democracy..it's not that important

2

u/CMD-ZZZ Dec 19 '22

Tell that to Trump’s presidency

If yes wins, he quits. If no wins, then he continues running Twitter into the ground. The poll is worded a little weirdly.

87

u/Naoroji Dec 19 '22

The poll isn't worded that weirdly, I think the people you're responding to are just hoping for different outcomes lol. One is hoping Musk leaves so Twitter survives, one is hoping Musk stays so Twitter dies.

30

u/Leezeebub Dec 19 '22

No the first person got it wrong and the second person corrected them, then a third person came along and tried to correct the second person but missed the point of what had been said by the first two people.

7

u/McCaffeteria Dec 19 '22

Secret third option: Yes wins the majority of votes and he ignored the poll because it’s obviously all those bots he insists exist and he stays in charge anyway.

8

u/pisstakemistake Dec 19 '22

I wouldn't be surprised if he bans everyone that voted no, the way he's going

6

u/McCaffeteria Dec 19 '22

A digital rapture like that would actually be incredible lol

2

u/IndyAndyJones7 Dec 20 '22

Just like how he said he wouldn't ban anyone and then he banned a bunch of reporters because it's his toy and he can play with it however he wants?

11

u/Ghostweb Dec 19 '22

If yes wins he doesn’t quit because his ego knows better than everybody else, he’s just doing the polls for attention and people are lapping it up.

5

u/Helpful_Shower3246 Dec 19 '22

I still hope twitter gets run into the ground.

3

u/Ghostweb Dec 19 '22

I’m with you on that one.

3

u/MARPJ Dec 19 '22

If no wins, then he continues running Twitter into the ground

Exactly, that is a great reason to vote no

12

u/Life_outside_PoE Dec 19 '22

Destroying Twitter is a good thing. Even before the muskrat took over it was a fucking cesspool.

6

u/Verbal-Soup Dec 19 '22

He needs to lay off the alcohol after hours. Dudes living out his teens or something as a grown man in charge of billions of dollars.

Where the fuck do losers like this come from lol jfc

3

u/lookingforassist Dec 19 '22

You mean you want them to say no? That way he can continue to destroy the platform?

3

u/GeneralZaroff1 Dec 19 '22

Yeah. He’s trying to get a yes so he can put in a puppet, he’s still going to call the shots behind the scenes and continue to promote his tweets while censoring the people he doesn’t like, but he doesn’t want the blame.

3

u/Knights123 Dec 19 '22

If he steps down then he (and his followers) can blame someone else for Twitter’s downfall.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '22

i think people say yes because it's like a bad reality tv show and people want to continue seeing how elon makes an ass out of himself.

75

u/vandist Dec 19 '22

It is but it's manipulation, he's in Qatar and the Saudi's aren't happy with their Twitter investment. He's been told to step down but is trying to play it off as he's magnanimous. Not the fragile narcissist prick he truly is.

24

u/smoothballsJim Dec 19 '22

I can only imagine the “you’re burning down two empires and using our money as the kindling” talk went so well for him… dude’s probably about to get the kashogi treatment if he didn’t.

2

u/RestrictedAccount Dec 19 '22

Probably a difficult conversation with MBS (aka Mr. Bone Saw)

2

u/smoothballsJim Dec 19 '22

I'm pretty sure the whole point of all of that was the aftermath - to show that he could get away with it.

8

u/muricabrb Dec 19 '22

Yup. It's a lame cop out.

7

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '22

I hope not. I've been looking forward to Twitter's downfall and Elon Musk is the most able to do so.

2

u/Isakk86 Dec 19 '22

It doesn't matter. He would still own the company and can mandate what he wants to happen.

70

u/Massive3AMdumps Dec 19 '22

He already knows he's out the door to focus on other projects. This is a way to publicly announce the move

42

u/Purple-Quail3319 Dec 19 '22

The lengths Muskovites will go to in order to defend a rich kid throwing a tantrum is wild

16

u/ChiselFish Dec 19 '22

Lying on Twitter polls and then doing the thing is Musk's signature move. Like the time he asked if he should sell Tesla stock. He filed the forms with the SEC before doing the poll. It's like a weird self fluffing thing for him, I dunno I'm not a crazy billionaire.

1

u/Massive3AMdumps Dec 19 '22

No analysis of objective reality required to get on the musk hate train, give no regard to his patterns of past actions. Musk had admitted to dealing with a developmental disorder, likely also affects the development of his maturity. He is playing games with other peoples money

6

u/Kimantha_Allerdings Dec 19 '22

There are plenty of autistic people who aren’t man-babies like he is. I don’t think we can attribute his behaviour to that.

7

u/test_user_3 Dec 19 '22

It's not defending him. It's pointing out that he's a dishonest person and if he steps down he probably already planned to do so.

8

u/destroyerOfTards Dec 19 '22

He is following David Cameron's footsteps.

The god damn Detroit Lions are better at running their team then Musk is at Twitter.

4

u/Mash_man710 Dec 19 '22

I'm Aussie so no idea who they are but we have a local under 9's footy team that could probably do a better job.

4

u/dasruski Dec 19 '22

The lions are the first team to go 0-16 in the NFL, have only been to the playoffs 3 times since the 50s and haven't won a playgame since the 50s. They've wasted multiple hall of fame player's careers.

I would say the Cleveland Browns are inept but they've turned it around to a degree though that team sold it's soul for a sexual predator because he can throw a ball well.

Section 125 decent?

7

u/Joego163 Dec 19 '22

Not at all, why would it be? Section 125 is probably one of the best you can get. Right past third base

8

u/cBlackout Dec 19 '22

Mets are in a really good place right now, their owner has basically decided to spend as much money as humanly possible to win a championship so they’re pretty loaded with talent

The lolmets stuff is because they’ve historically been cursed with terrible luck and terrible ownership

3

u/RegressToTheMean Dec 19 '22

I know 1986 was a long time ago and most of Reddit wasn't even alive, but younger me still cringes thinking about the Mets/Sox World Series. I think about poor Buckner and the treatment he received by the shitty Sox fans despite he being a key reason the Sox made it to the World Series that year

3

In my opinion, despite Reddit’s problems with echo chambers (such as r/politics and r/conservative), it is still leaps and bounds better than the shit-stained bathroom wall of graffiti that is Twitter.

2

u/jcowurm Dec 19 '22

One of the most popular subreddits r/whitepeopletwitter is arguably the biggest echochamber on the internet. An echo chamber filled with people part of the Twitter echochamber.

u/regoapps Dec 19 '22

"I found some last minute mail-in ballots all casting for 'No'. It was just enough to change the poll results, so I will remain the head of Twitter. Any journalist who asks for proof will be suspended for doxxing."

20

u/CrackBingeIdea Dec 19 '22

Bro stop it vote no so he’s forced to keep driving it in clown shoes! Get Tesla taken off him! He wants to leave!

50

u/UnremarkableBob Dec 19 '22

He never would have made this poll unless he already knew exactly what he wanted to do and the poll was rigged to give him this result. So transparent.

26

u/DadinDenver Dec 19 '22

Guarantee he was told by Tesla investors and SpaceX backers that he’s finished at Twitter and to hurry the fuck up and hire a professional who knows what he’s doing.

25

u/stewie3128 Dec 19 '22

Axios already reported earlier today that he's looking for someone else to run Twitter.

20

u/Initial-Shop-8863 Dec 19 '22

He could hire back the original team and owners, and keep his hands and great ideas(/s) to himself.

6

u/Chubby_Bub Dec 19 '22

Would the original team even want to come back at this point?

9

u/rockidr4 Dec 19 '22

I wouldn't. I'd be deep in the woods right now with some extraordinarily expensive and lightweight hiking gear, possibly with nothing but a GPS communicator to reach me with only my closest loved ones having access to my whereabouts and contact info

4

u/siccoblue Dec 19 '22

Can't imagine anyone with half a brain cell would want to with the threat of Elon as the owner still around. Elon has made that company pure fucking toxic waste to any qualified hiring pools

24

u/DJJazzyGeoffrey Dec 19 '22 edited Dec 19 '22

Don’t fall for it. This an attention grab, just like everything else he does.

The results of this poll don’t mater, a new CEO is likely already in negotiations.

Musk has grown tired of his new expensive toy.

39

u/SwedishGamerDude Dec 19 '22

Wait, this was an actual tweet?? I thought it was fake.

37

u/Where_Happiness Dec 19 '22

We live in a meta-joke period where jokes have become so close to reality it’s difficult to distinguish them anymore.

8

u/HoneyCandyBee Dec 19 '22

That's because Elon is the joke :p

2

u/DeathPercept10n Dec 19 '22

Reality is gonna put South Park and The Onion out of business.

3

u/Aioi Dec 19 '22

If it seems stupid and non sensical, there’s a good chance it’s real. Satire publishers like The Onion will probably not survive against the shit show that reality has been over the past few years.

53

u/therationalists Dec 19 '22

Would Mets do a better job of running Twitter?

79

u/PainfulPeanutBlender Dec 19 '22

A literal meth head would do a better job of running Twitter

29

u/56seconds Dec 19 '22

At this point I'm convinced I could run Twitter better, and I'm not even on meth

6

u/Jimmycaked Dec 19 '22

You got the job We're gonna need you to start meth though

11

u/JuniorSeniorTrainee Dec 19 '22

You probably could, because CEO is a low skill profession.

8

u/designgoddess Dec 19 '22

Should step down from Tesla.

8

u/PandaKing185 Dec 19 '22

Anytime he does a poll that doesn't go the way they want, literally all the comments are "wow the Dems are faking votes again" or "here come the bots!" They absolutely refuse to acknowledge loss. They either win or the other side cheated. It's so sad

38

u/FreeJSJJ Dec 19 '22

What's it gonna do? He'll just step down and install one of his sock puppets in the position. He'll still make the decisions, but will avoid the liability and flak for the decisions. Once he's gone, people will gradually pay less attention to the decisions made there due to the absence of such a high profile individual at the head.

Either way it's a win win situation to him. We're just deluding ourselves at this point. Brilliant move though.

37

u/Fifteenlamas Dec 19 '22

I wouldn't call it brilliant. He looks like a moron asking the internet if he should keep his job.

-8

u/FreeJSJJ Dec 19 '22

He's already overpaid for the company, now's the time to cut cost and save the Tesla stocks. He'll earn a bit of cred if he actually follows through and tge next fall guy will take the heat for future decisions

3

u/January28thSixers Dec 19 '22

Cred from who? I can't imagine anyone is impressed by this nonsense.

-1

u/FreeJSJJ Dec 19 '22

Cred as in credibility, sry English is not my native language. Just realised that cred is not used as a short term for credibility I guess

I'm voting "no". The chaos is amusing.

6

u/brokinbrainz Dec 19 '22

I'm kinda split on it as well. Like yes let's him off the hook. A no vote will make it so he has to stick around and create more entertainment, er chaos, er.....whatever. im going to get some Carmel popcorn for the show. You want some?

3

2

2

u/FortunateInsanity Dec 19 '22

With how ridiculously childish he has proven himself to be, I’m concerned this move will be used as an excuse to give control of the platform to someone who will completely open up the floodgates and turn Twitter into 8Chan.

2

u/killpuddle1 Dec 19 '22

This dude thinks he’s funny. Guarantee he has a vote dump by his bots at the 11th hour which pushes him ahead and says something to the effect of this is how it’s done in American elections.

What a douche if he does.

2

u/KiwiKal Dec 19 '22

I want to see him run that platform into the ground and lose his money.

He wants to run Twitter. Let him.

Also, HOW DO YOU KNOW the next owner(s) of Twitter isn't going to be a right-wing shitstain?

2

u/Old_Fart_1948 Dec 19 '22

MAGA people want Democrats Listening to what they have to say so they can laugh at them, and own the Dems.

They post here they get deleted. So they go to trump social, but there's no dems there.

So where's the fun in posting there?

And Elon thinks that his MAGA Twitter will work better than trumps, MAGA truth site.

This is freedom of speech,  And people leaving MAGA sites is the consequence of that free speech.

They are both failures and will die.

2

u/shainotshai Dec 19 '22

I voted no. Twitter shutting down and Musk being in debt is a nice scenario.

2

u/Conscious_Draft249 Dec 19 '22

2

u/DeeSt11 Dec 19 '22

He can easily adjust the poll to his liking

2

u/EvenBetterCool Dec 19 '22

If he stepped down, Twitter might turn a profit. That's not how Elon operates.

2

u/Arcon1337 Dec 19 '22

How are there so many people voting no?

2

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '22

I have two theories. Either this is what Elon wants and he will use it as an excuse to put a CEO in place and fade away from twitter (seems running a social media’s was harder than he thought)

Or he will just say “bots hijacked poll” and ignore it

2

u/NoSoupForYouRuskie Dec 19 '22

How many active users does Twitter have a day?

2

u/xRetz Dec 19 '22

'Yes' is going to win, but he won't step down, he'll claim that most of the 'yes' votes were from bot accounts or something.

-12

u/eterevsky Dec 19 '22

Why is it pathetic to admit that you don't know shit about running social media platforms?

14

u/TheBigPhilbowski Dec 19 '22

Pathetic because he thinks most people will take this sincerely. In reality, the decisions been made for him already by boards of other orgs his dad's apartheid emeralds bought. To put it simply, he's trying to do a "you can't fire me, I quit" in public to muddy the narrative.

-10

u/eterevsky Dec 19 '22

In reality, the decisions been made for him already by boards of other orgs his dad's apartheid emeralds bought.

You mean he's not in control of the company that he'd bought? This is some conspiracy theory shit.

Also, his dad's apartheid emerald mine costed just £40,000.

5

u/efstajas Dec 19 '22 edited Dec 19 '22

You mean he's not in control of the company that he'd bought?

Of course he is, but it's not like he can do whatever he wants with it without consequences. He has countless obligations to outside organizations and people. Including e.g. the board of Tesla, a public company, who absolutely have the power to oust him and may have already pressured him to let Twitter go for all we know.

Also, his dad's apartheid emerald mine costed just £40,000.

£40,000 in 1969 is half a million pounds adjusted for inflation, and initial purchase price doesn't mean much at all.

It's probably because it comes across as something a 12 year old middle school student would do (Do you like me? Please circle "yes" or "no".) instead of a 51 year old billionaire. It is rather pathetic that he runs aspects of his $44 billion purchase via Twitter poll.

-13

u/eterevsky Dec 19 '22

I mean, he didn't buy it as an investment, but to implement his ideas about social media (which are admittedly pretty muddled). In general voting is not the worst method of making decisions, even though it has its drawbacks.

5

If he didn’t know shit then why did he fucking buy it?

u/eterevsky Dec 19 '22

Apparently he didn't realize it at the time.

Sounds like he’s a fucking horrible businessman then and deserves to be mocked

He totally deserves to be mocked, yeah. I just don't think the mocking from this post is to the point.

I don't think he's a horrible businessman. He built super-successful businesses in the past. The problem with Twitter is that he doesn't fully approach it as a business. He bought it not as an investment, but to fulfil some ideological vision for it. Now he tries to do it while at the same time make Twitter profitable, which is probably impossible.

How is it pathetic? He's literally letting the site decide if he should run it or not

2

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '22

We all now it's just for publicity, do really think he's going to take this poll seriously?

Good for him. He listens to public opinion and makes changes to adjust. I don't see how this is some failing on his part.

I miss when every single sub wasn't infected with political bullshit.

Laughing at a CEO who keeps making bad decisions when it comes to a social media platform isn't political though.

What is political about this?

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '22

Elon uses "Prosecute/Fauci" neo-pronouns so just like every person with non-conventional pronouns, everything that Elon does now will be treated as political.
